Course structure
ILSi courses are held at centres throughout the UK and are certified by the Resuscitation Council (UK). This ensures uniformity of content and standard regardless of the centre.
The course programme  consists of a lecture and practical sessions covering all teaching modalities required to teach the ILS course.

Assessment and Certification
Continuous assessment occurs throughout the ILSi course, with constructive feedback provided by the teaching faculty. Following successful completion of the ILSi course, candidates will receive a Resuscitation Council (UK) ILS Instructor certificate. All Instructors will be assessed on the first two courses they teach on following successful completion of the ILSi course to consolidate knowledge and skills.
To maintain instructor status the instructor is required to teach on a minimum of two ILS courses per year, or one ILS course and two ILS recertification courses. Recertification of ILS instructor status is undertaken every four years and takes place during an ILS course on which the instructor is teaching.

Pre-course preparation
Candidates will receive a copy of the course manual at least four weeks prior to the course and are expected to read this prior to course attendance. Teaching materials and assessment forms will be sent to the candidates four weeks prior to the course and candidates are expected to prepare their allocated teaching sessions prior to the course.

ILSi courses are held throughout the year at centres across the UK. To attend, candidates must be referred to a registered course centre by their original ILS Course Director.

Course fees are decided locally by the course centre; the Resuscitation Council (UK) only charges the course centre £15 per manual.
