PILS Recertification courses are held at centres throughout the UK and are approved and certified by the Resuscitation Council (UK). This ensures uniformity of content and standard regardless of the centre.

The PILS Recertification course is run over half a day and the course programme consists of one lecture, demonstration and practice, skill stations and simulation practice.

Assessment and Certification
Continuous assessment is undertaken throughout the course, utilising the ABCDE, BLS and Airway assessment forms.

The standard course last 3 hours and comprises:

• Interactive lecture; ABCDE assessment and the paediatric ALS algorithm
  
• Practice of ABCDE clinical assessment
  
• Practice of in-hospital BLS with bag mask ventilation
  
• Simulation practices with continuous assessment

Successful candidates receive a Resuscitation Council (UK) PILS provider certificate, which is valid for one year. The PILS course is recognised for up to 5 continuing professional development (CPD) points.

Pre-course preparation
Candidates must have a current PILS manual. Assessment forms and course details (including manual if required) must be sent to the candidates at least two weeks before the re-certification course date.
